IT WAS A LIFE CHANGER...
His Story...Our StoryOn December 15, 2015, our dad, Elbert Williams was scheduled for surgery to remove cancer. Based on the lab reports and x-rays, it was to be a simple surgery. The mass that was seen was small and while in surgery they would do a biopsy and remove cancer tissue from our dad’s stomach wall, near his pancreas. We sat in the hospital for hours, laughing, telling jokes, praying and being hopeful. Then it happened, that moment when the doctor walked out to update us. A heavy weight hit the atmosphere of the waiting room. Something just did not feel right and from the look on the Dr.’s face, he did not want to have this conversation with us. We will never forget those words “Well, it’s not looking good. While in surgery we discovered that the cancer was hidden. When lifting the pancreas, the cancer covered his main artery. We cut away as much as we could but some remained. I regret to inform you that the diagnosis is pancreatic cancer and with this diagnosis, he is only expected to live 6 months. There are no guarantees and I don’t want to paint this to be a pretty picture.” What do you do with that information? Nothing could have prepared us for that, he was only 53 years of age. As people of the Christian Faith, we believed and had hope and still do. We watched our dad fight pancreatic cancer and with every doctor visit, we witnessed miracles. The doctors would be in disbelief because his lab results were proof that he should not be living but God had another plan. He gave us, his children enough time to prepare for the inevitable. On March 19, 2017, after 15 months of fighting a dignified fight with pancreatic cancer, our dad passed away, our life changed again, this time forever. One of our father’s requests was that we continue his legacy of love for people, wanting the best for them and to live a life that is filled with hope and faith. E. L. Williams was founded by his Best Friend/ Former Spouse Sheila Williams and their three children that they parented and raised together in life, Hollie, Calvin and Amber. We aspire to keep his legacy going forward through E.L. Williams Foundation where 100% of charitable donations will be used for research, education, support and awareness. The support for our mission and his legacy has already begun. At his celebration of life service, we had people to donate and as a result, this website was made possible as well as the reality of being recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 nonprofit to further this cause. We cannot do this without you! |
